Busy Bee...Bzzzz

I haven't been blogging lately. So busy with everything.

1) Still waiting for the stupid car. It has been 8 weeks!!!
2) Busy with rellies in town.
3) Busy with cleaning, tinying up the house.
4) Busy to get as much done before heading to Singapore in 15 days.
5) Busy trying to catch up with beauty sleep.
6) Busy helping friends with stuff.

I asked Nic a few days ago if a person can sleep for 2 days straight without waking up (read: no pee, food and water) for 48 hours. He said most likely impossible. Hmm, maybe I should try to prove him wrong.

I am so damn tired now. I feel liked Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...

Food Adventures

I did say before that I love food and I would definitely consider enjoying good food a hobby of mine. For the past few days, I had such a wonderful food experience from dining out as well as creating my favourite food at home.

So let me recap those yummilicious memories...

Mahsuri Satay
It's a MUST go place if you love satay. The taste is really authentic and it is cooked over a charcoal fire, just liked the ones you get in Singapore or Malaysia.

We ordered a serve (6 pcs) of Chicken Satay, Beef Rendang and Stir-fried Veggies with steamed rice. Dien tried the hot tek terik and I had my favourite Pink Bandung drink.

Chicken Satay served with Warm Peanut Sauce, Ketupat, Cucumber & Onions (just liked in Singapore)

Beef Rendang & Stir-fried Veggies

Dinner was really good....I ate so much that I forgot to leave some room for dessert. Grrrr...there will be next time!

Chelsea Pizzas Co
Did anyone say that sweet potato and goat cheese make a good combination as pizza toppings? Of course they are! I tried my first sweet potato and goat cheese pizza and it was just heaven! The pizza was really simple - sweet potato, goat cheese, onions and tomatoes on a crispy thin crust. I had 5 slices.......it was SOOOOO GOOOOOD I think I could eat the whole thing.

So there were the dining out......but I cook too.....hehehe....and I reckon I'm not too bad a cook. Nope, I like to call myself a chef. Hahaha.

I tried my first attempt on making a cheese cake using Marilyn's secret recipe. My first time making a cake from scratch and I think it's a really successful attempt. Of course, there are plenty of rooms for improvement!

Hmm, next time must try to decorate the cake better.

And tonight, I whipped out one of my hawker favourites - Prawn Noodles Soup, with a little help from Hai's.

Ok, I have talked enough about food....me so hungry and sleepy now......Zzzzz.....

Up Close with a 750 yo

I dashed across the road and ran so fast I thought I was meeting Hidetoshi Nakata (my version of Brad Pitt). But what stood in front of me was this HUGE truck with a BALD tree. Ok, you can see that I'm not a very green person by the sound of it.

This BALD tree is called a Boab Tree and it is native to the Kimberley. It can live up to 2000 years and this one that I saw.....it's 750 yo and it weighs 36 tonne. It created a commotion this afternoon in Subiaco.....jamming up the 2-lane busy street. And I stood there so amazed of this BALD tree and I don't have my mobile with me! (That's the not so nice thing about today, leaving my mobile at home....arghhhhh)

I was so closed to this amazingly old and bald tree and I had a thought to just go up and touch it. And the most funny thing was that this tree or the vehicle carrying this tree was escorted. There were a little "cherry picker" crane and 3 other cars escorting the move. They were trimming trees on the side of the road so that they wouldn't harm the tree when driving through. And the park ranger was there to supervise. It was really hilarious when I saw them moving other cars parked on the road cos' they are blocking a tree and they removed a road sign as it was in the way. And the TV crews were there to capture the scene. Hah....this TREE has more power than the residents living in the area. Hmm, maybe you gotta live 750 yos to get this sort of power!

Let's hope this one and only Boab tree will like its new home at King's Park.

Review: Wagamama

All right, I suck! 2 restaurants reviews and I have forgotten about photos for both. Each time, I awaited for my food eagerly and when they arrived, I "preyed" on it liked a starving animal.

I promise pictures next time.

I always hear very positive reviews about Wagamama. A friend from the UK was telling me how great it was back that. I had a taste of Wagamama experience last year. It wasn't great I must say. My feedback then were:

1. Food overated. Taste was ordinary.
2. No value for $.
3. Service sucked!

Last night, we decided (or I should say - I decided) to give Wagamama a second chance. I told myself to go in with no biasness and try the food just liked a first time diner. We ordered gyoza for entree, Wagamama ramen (served with grilled chicken, fish, prawn, tofu, Jap fishcake and wakame) for me and Chicken Katsu Curry rice for Dien.

The gyoza came with a vinegar-liked dipping sauce and I really liked it. I reckon they could do better by stuffing the gyoza with abit more fillings. Minced chicken and cabbage aren't too expensive isn't it?

Ramen....my impression of ramen is this hot, steamy, noodle soup that comes with a mouth-watering to-die-for whiff when it's being served. None of that. It was not steamy hot. OK, there was steam but not the HOT HOT steam that I like. In terms of taste, sigh, I guess a neighbourhood Japanese takeaway could do better. These were the "highlights":

1. Grilled chicken was dry. I hope it wasn't yesterday leftover chicken in the grill. Or the roast chicken special you get in Coles or Woolies before the end of the day.
2. Grilled fish. What fish? Didn't see any fish in the bowl. Or or was it that piece smaller than a 20-cents coin?
3. Grilled prawn was OK. It tasted what prawn should be.
4. I got 1 piece of fried tofu and 1 piece of fish cake.

This is supposed to be THE RAMEN of Wagamama. It's called the Wagamama Ramen with a huge price tag of $17.20. (you can get a packet of Nissin Tonkatsu Ramen from any asian grocery store and it costs only $1.75 and it tastes better)

Dien's Chicken Katsu Curry wasn't too bad. He said it's worth 3.5-4/5. I gotta admit it didn't taste that bad. The server was very kind to accord his special request to have the curry sauce on the side (in case the sauce is too spicy hot).

Our total damage for the night was $33.75 (after Entertainment Book discount). Both of us reckon we could get better dessert elsewhere.

Review: Shilla Korean BBQ Restaurant

Korean food leave a very deep impression in me. When I was in Seoul, Korea, I experienced the Korean hospitality and the fine cuisine. I have been having western food for the last few days and I'm really sick of it. Call me an Asian...I still favour rice and noodles anytime. So last night, it was my turn to pick a restaurant and Shilla Korean caught my eyes.

I have to start from the beginning as I feel that my dining experience starts from my first contact (telephone call) with Shilla restaurant.

I rang up about 5pm to enquire about the restaurant opening time. I had been told that the restaurant opens at 6pm for dinner. The man over the phone asked me if I have their address and I said yes, the Entertainment Book has the address printed. He pointed out that the information was not enough. He followed by giving me very specific instructions to locate the restaurant in East Perth.

We parked at the undercover carpark where the restaurant is located. When we stepped out of the lift, we were delighted that a man was waiting for us. He asked if we were going to the restaurant and we said yes. He showed us to the door and handed us over to the waiter who showed us to our seat.

The restaurant has a very simple decor, very pleasant and not clutter. The ornaments and the light Korean music playing in the background brought me back to my days in Seoul.

We chose to go straight into mains where we cooked our own food at the table. We picked a Wagyu Beef and a Chicken Bulgogi set. Our table BBQ was setup and shortly after, our meals were brought in. We let the waiter starts the BBQ for us. The meat started to sizzle and I could smell the fragrance of the marinate. The waiter later came to check on us and told us not to overcook the beef...Ah, he must be a medium-rare lover just liked both of us!

The meat was very tender and the dipping sauce complemented the meat without overpowering it. We had 4 side dishes (a light salad, pickled beansprouts and mashed potatoe and pumpkin and Kim Chi) that came with the set. My favourites are the Kim Chi and the mashed potatoe.

The food portion is not the regular Australian portion sized. The food was served just liked in Korea, very proportionate for a meal. By the end of the meal, we were not stuffed but pleasantly filled. We even have rooms for dessert.

For dessert, Dien had the Dessert Special for the Month - Deep fried banana balls served with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream, red bean paste and berry preserve. I picked the Korean pancake with red bean paste and vanilla ice-cream. Dessert was so delicious. The banana balls go well with the red bean paste...I could eat the red bean paste on its own! Hmmmmm.....

Our dinner cost $70.50 after the Entertainment Book discount. It was such a wonderful experience and for sure, we would return next time with friends or family (and we could try new stuff!!!)

Food glorious Food

There is a Chinese saying that "Chinese eat anything that have legs and fly in the sky (probably not the aeroplane)" I, for one, enjoy eating and willing to try new food each time. Maybe you can call me a EATER. Nah, maybe just a Connoisseur. I enjoy my food and good food makes me HAPPY.

I can't possibly cook everyday, so twice a week, we dine out. That's the time where I would play food critic. We have an Entertainment Book (to support my charity) as well as a great opportunity to try new places.

I have decided to share these new dining experiences here so that anyone who is looking for a night out can have an idea what to expect. The reviews would be based on any ordinary person reactions....I'm not going to act Gordon Ramsay...I will be honest [read: blunt at times] and share my dining experiences.

0.7 degrees for 2 days!!! It's really BLOODY cold and I'm wishing for the warm weather from anywhere that is experiencing summer at the moment.

As you can see, I'm not a very winter person. I'm a super whinger when it comes to winter. I want to be a BEAR and hibernate the whole winter season if I can. There is no snow in Perth, only rain and cold wind. I left the house this morning with 3 layers, a scarf around my neck and my leather gloves.

Funny thing is that when I was driving out, the sun is coming up and I have my sunnies on....the look is just contradicting! I'm all wrapped up liked a bak-chang (rice dumpling) and I have my cool sunnies on...ehhh...it's looks very unglam (I think!)

Anyway, the weather bureau said that the cold nights/morning would be ending soon. There wouldn't be more of these 0.7 degrees nights/morning...only 5 degrees...WHAT THE???!!!

With one-third of WA's gas supplies cut by an explosion on the Varanus Island gas plant, public has been asked to to cut back their energy use, including heating. Ahem...how do you cut down on heating when it's that COLD??? I don't want to freeze to death, you know??!! Also, public has been asked to cut down shower time to 4 mins. PLEASEEEEE.....I'm only onto my hair by the 4th mins...How can one take a 4-mins shower? Where exactly are you cleaning? Or maybe there isn't much cleaning to do. Just turn on the tap, stand underneath the warm water, run soap on your head and when the "soapy" stuff flows down from top to bottom, that is supposed to clean you? My shower time is 15 mins, period. And we use a solar hot-water system at home...so I guess I'm entitled to my 15 mins shower.

Call me environmental unfriendly or whatsoever....I don't care. This is living. Why is it all households have to help conserve energy and the big corporations out there can waste it? It doesn't make sense at all.

Kallang Roar - The Movie

I know Ding An when I was in Uni. We stayed in the same house (campus hostel) and for 1 year and we had the best fun as housemates.

We took turns to make dinner and you know what? Ding An is a very good cook. He planned his menu and diligently searched for recipes. He will then go to the supermarket to shop for ingredients and by dinner time, you will see him in the kitchen whipping up his dishes.

We had crazy times....we went clubbing, drinking and then supper at 4am before going home to sleep. We drove down to Albany then Margaret River for one Easter long weekend, realising the countryside is so boring. Hahahaha....we took out videos and watched in the room and Ding An, the infamous bartender was behind the counter perfecting his Midori. I was a bad drink critic...every batch tasted liked cough syrup...I think I made him coughed blood....LOL

Anyway, this aspiring young lad has now turned out to be a promising film director. His first movie is going to be shown ISLANDWIDE on 21 Aug 2008. Look out for this new movie about Singapore soccer called KALLANG ROAR - THE MOVIE. A Cheng Ding An Film.

Hyper-Flexible

I saw my GP the other day as I need a medical professional to clear me fit after going through 5 weeks of physiotherapy. This was the first time I met with my GP. He saw Dien before and we have decided to make him our family doctor.

Anyway, he is very nice and have a good sense of humour. He typed with 2 fingers - keeping a record of my accident and he took so long to type a few sentences. I thought he was writing a thesis.

He told me to do a few "exercises" to test my flexibility after the accident.
Exercise #1: Bend down and touch my toes [I did it effortlessly]
Exercise #2: Bend down and see if I can place my palm on the floor [No problemo!]
Exercise #3: Bend my hand to see how far my thumb can reach.


This is how far my thumb can reach...it nearly touched my bracelet. CAN YOU DO THIS?

He said I was HYPER-FLEXIBLE! No one ever told me that I'm flexible, not to mentioned HYPER-FLEXIBLE!!! To start with, I thought I wasn't....that's why I took up BodyBalance 2 years ago to improve my flexibility. I was pleasantly surprise!

I told everyone that day that I'm hyper-flexible...LOL...and I came home and ask Dien to do those 3 "exercises" too...He can only do #1...hahaha....I'm better than him! (Funny)

Vacation Planning.....

My definition of vacation is out of Perth to another country (excluding Singapore). Dien said that I take vacations all the time. Where got???!!!! I told him my last vacation was to China in 2007 with him and he asked me what about my trip back to Singapore in Feb this year? To me...that's just a trip to go home to see my parents, family and friends, eating and shopping! It's not exactly foreign.

I'm now planning for my vacation (without Dien...YEAH!!!!!) I'm going to Hong Kong with my cousin and Mum. I was so excited this morning when my cousin sent me an emailing telling me she has decided to go! COOLLLL...the last time I holiday with my cousin was when she visited me in Perth in 2005 and my last holiday with Mum was 2000 when we went to Hong Kong as a family. Seriously speaking, I have only travelled with my Papa thrice in my entire 30 yrs. Our family holiday to Gold Coast in 1996, Hong Kong & Shenzhen in 2000 and when he visited Perth in 2006 for my wedding. Papa said he's not tagging along cos' we are doing Girls' Stuffs! Smart Move...otherwise you have to help us with our shopping bags!

Anyway, we have booked our tickets and just need to confirm our accommodation. Argh...it's such a headache researching for hotels. So far, the best rates are from Agoda.com. But we need a Triple Room...and Hong Kong is well known for their tiny rooms...Best rate for Triple Room is S$240 per night with extra bed. Hmm...to confirm or not to confirm???

Well, besides the accommodation headache,I'm just thinking how I should paint the HK town red....shopping, eating...HERE I COME!!!

My Preciousssssss...

I'm mourning....mourning for my loss!

I have just decided what I would like to wear tomorrow and I started looking for my leather boots to go with my skinny jeans. I knew I had put it away safely but I just couldn't find it.

Suddenly, I felt as if I was strike by lightning! The BOX...the BOX that was wrapped in plastic...that really dusty BOX which I didn't open and dump it straight into the bin when I was moving beginning of the year! The BOX that contains a pair of almost new NINE WEST BLACK LEATHER BOOTS!!!!

Argh!!!!! I'm feeling liked a mother who has just lost a child...no words could describe my loss at the moment. I'm angry with myself for not throwing away a pair of boots...but a pair of NINE WEST boots!!!!

I'm a shoe fanatic...I love my shoes. I could buy 6 pairs of shoes in 1 month and I would say itz only 6. I never used to label the boxes thinking that every pair I owned is engraved deeply in my mind. But I guessed I ran out of memory space. I started to label my boxes sometimes last year and then I learn that now you can buy clear shoe boxes to house every pair of your precious. What a waste of money I thought...rather spend the money on shoes.

But that BOX was not labelled. It was old and dusty and it was a box for a very old pair of cheap boots. However, the contents inside were not CHEAP...it was my NINE WEST!

How could I sleep tonight???

Acci-Dent

these past 2 weeks have been really eventful. i was involved in a hit and run accident 2 Sats ago and that has dramatically changed my lifestyle.

i'm a hard-core gym goer....i'm there 4 days a weeks and i need to give myself a damn good excuse for not going for any classes. so far, i have missed 8 hrs of gymning.

i've been seen my physio 5 times so far. she's a great physio and she understands what i'm going through. and i know she is working on getting me back to the gym as soon as my body is capable of taking 60mins of high-impact "drilling" in one go. she gave me some light exercises to do at home with the fitball. i got tired after 5 push ups.....thatz wat my body is capable of doing now....only 5 push ups....

now that my car is written-off and my car insurance is replacing my car.....i have to wait for 6 weeks. apparently, the colour that i chose is a very popular colour. itz silver. i stick to my words.....no more dark coloured car. itz dangerous at nite.....imagine with your headlights on and you have the right of way....you can still get smashed by an idiot driver. plus, i don't wanna get bake in the car during summer time. yes, i have air-conditioning in the car but it always feel liked furnace when i just get in...then you have to wait for the cool air to kick in...i probably would have spent 10 mins cursing away. so stick to my words.....and i will wait. god....please make the car comes sooner. my husband is not a happy man at the moment....he has to drive me everywhere. but isn't that what husband is supposed to do?

i have my holiday plans to look forward to...and i have counted my blessing to be alive after such accident. god is watching me from above. thank you. i can't wait to see my family and friends.

don't worry, i'm fine and i'm getting better and stronger each day. :)

I'm Back!

My blog is missing 1 year of activities.....yes, I had such a wonderful 2007, so much fun that I forgot about blogging. I was zipping around Asia in 2007, met really wonderful people, especially a crazy doofus by the name of Glenn Smith, work was really challenging at the beginning but by the end of the year, it is also time to bid farewell.

So out with 2007....in with 2008. 5 months of the year are nearly gone...so let me start from today to document more of my little dramas that happen along the way.

still kicking

hello to all....

just fyi : me still kicking. i have been missing in action for awhile. before dien came to sg, i was having a fun time, spending time with my friends and family. he has been in sg for less than 48 hours and his "pattern" of being difficult has already surfaced!

we will be heading for china for our honeymoon (holiday) next week and i'm keeping my fingers crossed that we will have an enjoyable holiday (or at least me have an enjoyable holiday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

anyhow, me keeping this blog short and sweet. cos' at the moment, the only emotion i can feel is frustration....and more frustration!!!!

Days & Nites

It has been 1 week in Sg. I was full of excitment when I arrived back home last Wed. So much things to do, many people to see and tonnes of food to eat.

1 week into my "holiday", I suddenly feel estranged. I kinda lose the connection with the environment. I feel apart from this lifestyle I have been yielding when I was in Perth. I suddenly lose the passion for it.

Maybe I should be more proactive in creating activities for myself. I definitely need to check out some gym facilities. Maybe I could pack myself with many fitness classes in 1 day. I probably enjoy it tremendously. I thought of some activites I could do on my own - movies, museum, galleries, library (to soak up the free and powerful air-conditioning!) and window shopping.

I think I would start that tomorrow. Get out of the house for a few hours everyday and do something that I don't get to do often. Otherwise, I will turn retard VERY SOON! I'm in need of neuro-challenge at this point of time before it is being declared dead!

Yeah....for my own good....I think I should. Hopefully, my days and nites would be very different from this week onwards.

1st weekend in Sg

Sunday - 1st weekend in Sg. What did I do? I did plenty on Friday & Sat and have a really slow Sunday today.

It has been fun so far. I think I did really well so far too : ) I haven't go crazy and generate the Sg economy enomously. Hehehehehehe :P I did some shopping and I make sure I'm getting the best deal that no any shopper can ever say no...keeping the suspense....tell u guys later. Wahahaha

I meet up the gals for the 1st time last Friday's evening. The mom of the group had to leave work late so I volunteered to pick up her son, my little boyfriend from his English class. I was a little worried as I haven't seen Aaron for such long time and I think kids do not have very good memory when it comes to faces. I was worried he will refuse to leave with me or burst into tears and people would mistake me as a kidnapper. Haha. Anyway, Aaron was sooooo happy to see us. I went with Pris in the end to pick him up.

Later on that evening....we had dinner at the food court and had coffee at a cafe. It was really good time. Elleen joined us after 9ish and I got to meet her other half for the very 1st time. He is a very nice bloke! Very relief! Haha : )

We hung out till after midnight and we agreed to meet up again on Sat evening for coffee. Woke up pretty early on Sat as I went down to Ted Collection to have my first fitting for my cheongsam. The cheongsam looks good....really excited to know how the end result will look liked. Had a really yummy lunch - Yong Tau Foo, one of my favourite food! Hmm.....gotta have more before I go back to Perth. Then after, me and Marilyn headed down to Vivocity....a new shopping mall. That mall is HUGE!!!! It houses 15 cinemas in that complex....the biggest in Sg I was told!!!! Gotta try the cinema's system and seats before I go.

Anyway, our motive at Vivocity is to buy a pair of shoes to go with my cheongsam. Need a pair of silver heels. We found it...thanks to Marilyn! I also bought a dress for only S$40 (AUD$33.30) Very Nice!!! And bought Dien a nice shirt for only S$19. Went to Marilyn's in-laws place as her little boy (baby) is there. I haven't seen Matthew for a long time. Or let's say that the last time I saw him, he was just a baby a few months old. Now....he is a cute little boy walking around on his own....very cheeky!!!!

I was warned that no one can touch/carry him. But he warms up to me very quickly!!! I got to carry him so many times and play with him. Maybe he likes me. Hmm....no I didn't bribe him with any lollies. : )

So I was out for more than 12 hours yesterday. We went back to Vicocity again in the evening and had coffee there. One of the cafe closes at 2.30am in the morning! Cool!!!! We drank and chatted.....it feels really good. The same group of people but we have all matured with time. Our sense of humour is still the same!!!! We left about at 1.00am in the morning. Wow...tired.

Went out with my parents today. My brother told me last night that there is a NINE WEST clearance sales near our place. You can imagine my eyes dilated when I heard that. I went to check it out! So you ready for the real suspense? I bought a pair of ENZO ANGIOLINI suede keen high boots for only S$25(AUD$21)!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was f@#%king cheap. It was even cheaper than that pair of kid-sized boots I bought 2 winters ago. Oh! I need to crown myself.....what a shopping legend I am!

So far....everything has been fabulously good. Good food, good shopping, good bitching with the gals!

Well, not sure what I will do tomorrow. Maybe I should sleep in.....I don't know....we shall see. Stay tune to more of my shopping adventures! Hehehehehe :P
